Organizer(s) of Kolkata Jewellery Show 2010.
Hi Everybody,
Let me introduce myself first, I am "Daulatram Karel" representing "D C Karel & Sons" a jewellery manufacturing firm.
I am here to share my experience regarding interaction with the organizers of KJS with you. To begin with I would say "A group of highly irresponsible and negligent people". Now lets get down to the main character "Mr. Pranab Chandra Dey". Very very pleasing and co-operatinve before receiving the booking amount and "Highly irresponsible, un-cooperative, un-communicative, and even to say non reachable at critical times even at his own office and on mobile numbers provided by him", after receiving the booking amount.
Let me point out list wise what kind of experience I had with them:-

Now lets get down to the main character "Mr. Pranab Chandra Dey". Very very pleasing and co-operatinve before receiving the booking amount and "Highly irresponsible, un-cooperative, un-communicative, and even to say non reachable at critical times even at his own office and on mobile numbers provided by him", after receiving the booking amount.
Let me point out list wise what kind of experience I had with them:-
- KJS Team approached me on 20th Nov 2009 for stall booking, i.e. after 20th october which is supposedly the last date for cancellations of stalls.
- After requesting them to postpone the cancellation date I was given a date of 10th of dec 2009 as the last date for cancellation of stall.
- Also before booking the stall I inquired regarding VAT number, since I am a job worker/ manufacturer I do not have a VAT, to which they said that I would not encounter any problems with VAT they already have VAT number for KJS and we would be using the same. Only after getting these assurances I went ahead and booked the stall.
- Right from that very day things started to change. I was really very cautious about the VAT issue and so around 16th Dec I consulted my advocate regarding this and was advised to get more details of how would KJS organizers take in account the goods sold on their VAT. I immediately tried to contact Mr. Dey and get some information but his was not reachable neither on mobile nor at office number and would also not call back.
- From then almost we called him everyday and everyday they would have some excuse ready for the non availability of Mr. Dey. We were also supposed to receive detailed manual/ brochures by the first week of January and that also didn't happen. After so much of harassment from them I finally decided to mail them regarding my dis-satisfaction with organizers and my intent of withdrawing from the show. They didn't even replied to that mail. They were not at all communicative. Its like you give your money to them and then forget about them.
- In the meanwhile one of my relatives got a call from KJS (on 7th January) regarding stall booking and queried about it, I told him to talk to them and see if he can get hold of Mr. Dey and then he was attended by Mr. Dey over phone. At that same time my effort of talking to Mr. Dey at his office was ignored saying he was not in office. I immediately decided to go to his office to get hold of him but I wasn't lucky enough he managed to escape by the time I reached his office, but I got him over phone and even then I got the same kind of replies "I am busy, my colleauge is sick blah blah blah...".
- Finally about a week before the show i.e. around 14th Jan he says that he would be postponing the show (5th to 8th march) due to security and other problems that he said he is facing due to illness of "Jyoti Basu". He cited various reasons some of which might be true but then I am not comfortable with this change in schedule and would like to withdraw and take my refund. He simply ignored me and said that he would reply me before 21st Jan, and after that he again went unreachable.
- On 19th Jan I receive a mail from KJS indicating a 2nd schedule change, i.e. show date changes from march to april (1st to 4th April) and this time not only did they changed the schedule but they also changed the venue, stall rates and the minimum stall size. I immediately replied to them expressing my disagreement and seeking my refund but it seems they are not willing to pay me back.
- Now I have been trying to reach him since 19 Jan on his mobile and at his office but no response from him as of now.
- So guys this is my experience with KJS team and would advise you guys to be cautious while dealing with them. Do not pay them until the show is done. And I also dont know which committee appointed Mr. Dey as a Show organizer. These are extremely irresponsible people out there playing with our money.
- Be careful...
